Hey there! My name is Steve Zellmer and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While I am currently undeclared, I am pursuing a major in East Asian Studies with a focus on Japan. I have had a home in the chilly dairy state of Wisconsin for all of my life, spending most of my years in the small town of Oconomowoc. My love for Japan began with my childhood obsession with the anime series Dragonball Z, but my true appreciation for Japan began after researching Japanese medieval hero stories and the poetic form haiku during my first year on campus.
JASC was a life-changing experience for me in a number of ways. I found myself in a roundtable about a subject I knew little about beforehand (globalization), but came out with a lot of new information and a genuine interest in the subject. I also valued JASC as a social experience and cultural exchange as I gained new friends with extremely different cultural backgrounds. As an AEC, I want to make sure that the conference continues to offer multiple benefits to the delegates, as an academic, social, and cultural experience. I also hope that we can offer a safe environment for the delegates to share their various perspectives with the delegation. I am really looking forward to the 64th JASC!
